Background:
In his younger years Jet was a member of the ISSP (Inter Solar Systems Police). Back then he was a hotshot officer, known for his volatile temper and incredible tenacity. His old nickname, the Black Dog was indicative of his character, and has stuck in the minds of older officers even after his retirement. Jet retired from service in the ISSP after an incident in which he was badly injured and was required to receive cybernetic implants.
After his retirement, he quickly returned to his familiar home, Ganymede. During this period, he spent his time collecting smalltime bounties, and refitting an old wreck he stumbled upon, renovating it into the now famous Bebop. It was then that he met and befriended a strange young man named Spike Spiegel, and together they decided to expand their bounty hunting business.
In their travels they came across many odd people and cultures out on the intergalactic frontier. The foremost of these being a miss Faye Valentine, and another young miss Edward (whose entire sequence of names is too tiresome to write). Using his connections with the ISSP and it's affiliates, and Spike's underworld associations these four strangers formed what seemed would be an effective group.
Unfortunately, their strengths were only outnumbered by their flaws, as many problems arose, most of them stemming from a lack of money and food. Try as they may, the crew of the Bebop were riddled with bad luck, usually leaving each bounty with little more than a good story to tell.
As each of the members of the Bebop went their separate ways, and Spike faced his final encounter with the Red Dragons, Jet was left alone. Left with no other option, he started to make his way back to Ganymede.
In the month before he woke up in the Empyrean, Jet went back to small time bounties, and taking care of his Bonsai.
Personality:
Jet Black is an older gentleman with old world principles, and also considers himself something of a renaissance man. He cultivates bonsai trees, cooks, enjoys jazz/blues music (he named his ship the Bebop after a type of jazz), especially Charlie Parker, and even has interest in Goethe. Jet is the quintessential "dad," even though he often wishes people would view him as a more brotherly figure (so as not to seem old). Jet even prefers to use and older model handguns, such as his Walther P99.
Jet is the typical cop, preferring to use force over finesse. Even in combat, he relies on his metal arm and brute strength (not to mention his gun). Fond of pursuits that younger people would consider him old for enjoying, such as fishing, drinking, fixing things, and tending to his precious bonsai trees, he is very tolerant, and will deal with small animals and children regardless of how little he would like to. Jet only has a few vices, but he is unwavering in these, and will smoke, drink, and gamble at any given opportunity.
In his spare time, he is usually perfecting ways to cook meals out of nothing, which is convenient because he's usually broke.
As an older gentleman, Jet has seen a lot, and therefore is hard to shock. Though women, children and pets are high up on his list of annoyances. Jet is as loyal as his nickname implies and will fulfill any promise he makes without fail (on his part, at least).
